Detailed changelog
Bank statement imports
- Smarter PDF reading: Bank statement PDFs are now read using AI, which improves accuracy on complex layouts.
- Better handling of difficult statements: When a PDF doesn’t read cleanly the first time, BookBuilder automatically tries again with a second method to recover more transactions.
- Stronger duplicate detection: Imported rows are checked more carefully, so duplicates are caught more reliably.
- Clear messages for unsupported files: If you try to import a picture of a statement (such as a PNG or JPEG photo) or a QuickBooks
.iiffile, you’ll see a clear explanation instead of a confusing error. QuickBooks.iiffiles are no longer supported — please use PDF, CSV, or Excel instead.
Sign-in and sessions
- Longer sessions: You can now stay signed in for up to 8 hours, so you’re interrupted less often during a workday.
- Smoother session expiry: When your session does expire, BookBuilder takes you straight to the sign-in screen with a short note explaining why, instead of showing extra pop-ups to dismiss.
- Fewer pop-ups on startup: If you open BookBuilder after a long break and your session has expired, you’ll see one clean prompt to sign in again — not several stacked on top of each other.
- No more unexpected exits: Opening the app with an expired session no longer closes the app with a confusing “Cloud Required” error.
Saving and syncing
- Background saving: When you save transactions, BookBuilder now sends them to the cloud quietly in the background, so the app stays responsive instead of feeling frozen.
- Background setup for new clients: Creating a new client and saving big Chart of Accounts changes happen behind the scenes, so you can keep working.
- Delete Chart of Accounts entries: You can now delete accounts from the Chart of Accounts, with a confirmation step and proper cloud updates.
Reports
- Print to PDF: You can print any financial report to PDF directly from BookBuilder, with optional accounting-style header lines.
- Balance Sheet for any date range: The Balance Sheet now supports custom start and end dates, and the Net Income line always matches the Income Statement for the same period.
- Better fit on wide monitors: The transaction viewer inside Reports no longer looks squished or cuts off buttons on larger displays — a scrollbar keeps every transaction within reach.
- Cleaner editing in Reports: Saving edits in the inline transaction viewer now writes the correct debit, credit, and account values.
- Easier popup handling: Switching between accounts with and without transactions in Trial Balance, P&L, and Balance Sheet no longer leaves the popup stuck open without a close button.
- Memo column: Memo is now visible and editable directly inside the General Ledger and account editing views.
Adjusting Entries
- Easier to scan: The drill-down editor uses color to group lines that belong to the same journal entry, with clear balance summary rows.
- Repeating entries preview: When you set up a repeating adjusting entry, you’ll see a full table preview showing every entry that will be created — including reference ID, date, description, debit, credit, account, and memo.
- Edit before you commit: Double-click any row in that preview to edit dates, amounts, descriptions, accounts, or memos before the entries are created.
Behind the scenes
- Automatic database updates: When you open a client, BookBuilder quietly applies any needed updates to your data behind the scenes — no manual steps required. As part of these updates, certain duplicate transaction records and their related audit entries may be cleaned up automatically.
- Cleaner installer: The Windows installer now shows the license agreement before setup begins, and copies the license and third-party notices into the install folder.
- Packaged app reliability: Fixed missing sidebar icons in the installed version of the app, and improved how the packaged app finds its templates and built-in files.
